Welcome to the Notts Gymnastics Academy
![]()
Notts Gymnastics Academy offers a welcome to all who share a love of the physical challenges, benefits and grace of the various gymnastic disciplines. Whether you’re a parent looking for an organised way to channel the energies of a tumbling toddler, an adult interested in maintaining fitness and flexibility or an elite gymnast in need of world class training, NGA prides itself on being able to meet the needs of all.
The Academy, affiliated to the British Gymnastics Association, has been newly established, but builds on the work of previous groups at the East Midlands Gymnastics Centre, who have been offering training in a variety of disciplines since 1997. The Rushcliffe centre is now home to world class gymnasts, who train on a daily basis, as well as recreational gymnasts who may use the gym for just an hour a week.
The Academy is made up of 4 disciplines Gymnastics For All, Women's Artistic, Men's Artistic, Acro and Tumbling.
From pre-school tots to teenagers of all abilities within the recreational wing of the Academy there are opportunities to enjoy taking part in gymnastics using the same first class facilities as the elite athletes. The focus remains on delivering classes suited to all abilities in a safe environment with fully qualified coaches.
Why Gymnastics?
Gymnastics opens many doors. The spectrum of skills developed in gymnastics is so broad that it is a fantastic foundation for any type of sport or exercise - balance, coordination, flexibility, speed, power & endurance: You
name it, Gymnastics has it! In addition, the mental skills taught in gymnastics such as concentration, focus and determination can be used to succeed in academic life. It is possible to continue gymnastics throughout life; from
pre-school gym throughout the GymWorld program and onto Adult classes. Gymnastics also develops passion which gymnasts may want to share by training as young leaders, teachers and coaches. Mostly it helps create a well-balanced, fit, healthy & happy individual who will be well equipped to face life’s challenges.
Something for everyone!
At Notts Gymnastics Academy the GymWorld program offers a wide range of gymnastics activities: Men’s Artistic, Trampoline, Acrobatic, Aerobic, Women’s Artistic and TeamGym gymnastics as well as Cheerleading.
To compete at the top levels in gymnastics, training has to begin early to acquire the necessary levels of strength and flexibility. The Elite squads for both men and women offer focussed training for some of the most promising young gymnasts. Their progress, health and fitness are constantly monitored, with training tailored to meet individual needs. Current squad members compete at regional, national and international level, with potential and current Olympians amongst the squads. Entry to the Elite level is strictly by selection, with coaches looking for potential amongst pre-school and recreational gymnasts and through our development squads. For gymnasts that are not yet ready to be elite gymnasts we have implemented a club route within all disciplines to allow them to thrive and achieve to their full potential.
Alongside the Artistic Gymnastic disciplines, the Academy also offers an Acrobatic squad. This discipline, with a growing international profile, sees members focus on tumbling and floor-based skills. It is a competitive partner sport combining the strength, flexibility and technical precision of gymnastics with the grace and musicality of dance.
The NGA is justifiably proud of our successes.
Britain’s best ever all round Olympic Gymnast, Becky Downie, who finished 12th in the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
In 2010, NGA had more European Championships finalists than any other GB club, with Billie MacKenzie, Niamh Rippin and Becky Downie all making the individual finals and in 2011 Niamh and Billie winning silver and bronze at the British Championships. Several gymnasts from both boys and girls are currently in the British National Squads, continuing our legacy for producing class gymnasts, with British Champions amongst our junior ranks.
NGA are proud of all their gymnasts throughout the academy, their individual achievements, focus and commitment to training and the NGA recognises that success comes from hard work, team work, the continued support of parents and a belief that anything is possible.
It is an amazing time to be a part of British Gymnastics and we hope to encourage children to take part in this exciting sport and to unlock the potential of all.
