TRAINING GROUPS

Structure of groups

In order for each gymnast to reach their full potential the club provides various paths for the individual to follow. Some gymnasts can be identified as talented as young as 4 or 5 years old, other gymnasts develop later. Gymnasts will be grouped according to their ability, development stage, commitment and individual needs.

D1 DEVELOPMENT SQUAD 1
D1 is the development group for children aged 7 - 11 years old. Those gymnasts that show potential in D2 have the opportunity to move to D1 at 7/8 years of age where they will work towards the Elite pathway. This group builds on the foundations of D2 teaching more advanced skills and routines to prepare the gymnasts for Elite level gymnastics. D1 provides gymnasts with conditioning, strength, flexibility and skills to progress in their gymnastics, as well as teaching the value of hard work, discipline and good technique. Gymnasts work towards two cycles of in-age competition, competing at Compulsory Grades 4, 3 and 2 early in the year and Voluntary levels in September. At both of these competitions gymnasts have the opportunity to qualify for national finals where they will compete for East Midlands. Throughout the year they also take part in the annual County Championships and Alpha Factor. Gymnasts who continue to show an amplitude for gymnastics working well along the elite pathway may be picked to represent the club in national squads and at the age of 11/12 have the opportunity to move into our elite group.
Coaches Jemma Thurgood, Jo Miller, Jordan Lipton
AGE 7-11 years

D2 DEVELOPMENT SQUAD 2
D2 is the young development group for children aged 4-7 years old. The group aims to identify and nurture the child's natural potential. The gymnasts in this group are taught the solid basics needed to reach competitive standard later on in their gymnastic career. The gymnasts take part in the annual County Championships each year and compete Grade 14 at age 8. Gymnasts who have reached the top end of the age group are moved on and placed in a suitable group in which they can continue to progress as a gymnast in a group suited to their ability.
Coaches Jemma Thurgood, Kizzy Edwards, Laura Wilson
AGE 4-7 years

AO ADVANCED OPEN AGE
AO is the training group for Open Age gymnasts working  towards Regional and National competitions. The gymnasts in the group develop the skills required for them to compete at their selected competitions. They will work towards National Club Grades and those who have the ability to compete at a National level will do so through the Challenge Cup route.
Coaches Alan Price, Annie Godley, Beth Farrow, Joanne Bannerman, Stuart Dale, Lara West
AGE 9 years +

Notts Gymnastics Academy Women’s Artistic Squad operates a team coaching policy. The primary coaches will have responsibility for the group, however all coaches will be given opportunities to work at various levels.
