Regional Inter County Team Challenge – 6th November 2011

New College, Leicester

By Alan Price

Although they put in a good performance the Junior team of Hannah Piechota, Carrie Brown, Millie Fairhurst-Marshall, Brooke Jennings, Ellie Rhodes and Shenea Fawzi-Perrin missed out on a medal by just over a mark. Despite being the youngest team and without the higher start values of some of the more experienced gymnasts in the competition they were still in with a good chance of the Bronze medal until the final piece of apparatus, where too many falls on Beam cost them the chance of taking home something from the competition. There were however enough positive things to be gained from the performance and with continued hard work they will be a much stronger force next year.

The Senior team had a challenge ahead as they were one team member short as Daisy Barnes injured herself on Bars. The remaining four gymnasts had to have clean routines if they were going to gain anything from the day. Competing against gymnasts two or three levels higher than themselves, it wasn’t quite to be and they missed out on Bronze by two marks, taking into account Emily Heslin had a brace fitted to her hand 10 days ago. They certainly came out with their heads held high. Highlight of the day was the performance by Katie Liwoshko, who only competed at level 3 this year, but hardly put a foot wrong to finish in  2nd place overall. She competed without any falls in routines which included news skills being tried in competition for the first time. Well done to Katie, Chloe (who competed well to finish 6th overall), Emily, Caprice and Daisy.

L2, 3 & 4 Age Group National Championships, Guidlford Spectrum

By Jemma Thurgood

Notts girls made up 7 of the 8 girls competing for the East Midlands in the age group national finals, with Eden competing as an individual for Notts at level 2. Podium training saw all the girls get a feel for the equipment and warm-up their routines ready for the weekends competition.

Level 3

British Overall: Pictured 4th Margaux Deraksham (Gymstars), 5th Megan Parker, (Notts) 6th Amelia Montague (Europa)

The level 3 competition opened the weekend with Megan, Georgia, Amy and Sian making up the team. Bars saw a good opening to proceedings with clean routines from Sian, Amy and Megan, with Megan's score being one of the highest of the day. Beam proved to be difficult with a number of falls, but a stuck rountine by Amy provided the team with a boost. All girls perfomed beautiful floor routines and even with a unfortunate fall from Megan on one of her vaults the team closed well. Overall the team came 7th, with Georgia, Sian and Amy completing their 2nd national final of the year. Megan's combined score from Compulsory 3 and Level 3 putting her 5th and a potential place in National squad for a 2nd year.

15 46.775  -  Amy Tivey  (Combined 18th)

16 46.675  -  Megan Parker Rank 2nd A-bars, 6th floor (Combined 5th)

30 44.500  -  Georgia Wallace (Combined 24th)

Christine 5th, earning her a place on the National Starter Squad

Sunday saw the level 4 competition and with lots of strong teams we had a lot to do. Molly, Christine, Lauren and Laura Kaletha (Hinckley & Burbage) represented East Midlands with reserve Paige Wallis (Derby) who replaced Lily-Moorea Hutchinson due to injury at short notice. The girls opened well on bars with Molly performing her newly learned giant backaway. Again nerves got the better of gymnasts on beam, with a fall by Lauren and an uncharacteristic fall by Christine. However Laura provided the team with a stuck routine. The girls closed the competition with successful floor routines and vaults, placing the team 9th. This competition provided Lauren and Molly with their 2nd national finals of the year and Christine's combined Compulsory 4 and Level 4 scores also placed her 5th, with a potential invitation to join the National squad gymnasts alongside Megan.

22     45.400  -  Laura Kaletha (Voluntary comp score only 54th )

23=   45.350  -  Christine Tse (Combined 5th)

35     43.950  -  Molly Williams (Combined 30th)

47     42.550  -  Lauren Whitehead (Combined 39th)

Level 2

eden-l2-nf-2011

Eden finished 13th

13 46.025  -  Eden Edwards

At level 2 Eden opened with a solid vault (5th highest) and a fantastic bar routine earning her the 6th best score of the day. With a nervous beam routine there were a few wobbles, but she fought hard to stay on. Eden finished her competition with a good floor routine, this helped her gain 13th place overall.
