Welfare & Wellbeing

At Notts Gymnastics Academy (NGA), we’re passionate about creating a happy, welcoming, and safe environment where every gymnast can enjoy their journey, grow in confidence, and develop their skills. The wellbeing of our members is at the heart of everything we do, and this is reflected in our core values: Happy Souls, Do the Right Thing, and Be Our Best.

Whenever we make plans or decisions, we always ask ourselves: What’s best for the gymnast? How can we make sure they’re having fun, feeling safe, and able to succeed?

To keep both gymnasts and coaches safe, all our staff and volunteers who work directly with children and young people are:

  • DBS checked

  • Hold a current safeguarding certificate from British Gymnastics

  • Receive regular training in child protection and best practices

If you ever have any concerns about your child’s welfare or would just like to chat about their wellbeing, please feel free to reach out to one of the team members above or email us at welfare@Nottsgymnasticsacademy.co.uk.

If you feel your concern cannot be addressed by our NGA welfare team, you can also get support or advice from the British Gymnastics Welfare & Safe Sport Team. Their information hub can be found here or you can contact them direct by calling 0345 1297129, emailing welfareandsafesport@british-gymnastics.org or by filling out this online form.

We also have several team members who are trained Welfare Officers

Safeguarding and Information Sharing Statement

Notts Gymnastics Academy (NGA) has a statutory duty to share any safeguarding concerns regarding a child in need of protection with the appropriate agencies. This may include the police, health professionals, and children’s social care. Where relevant, NGA may also liaise with the Safeguarding Team at British Gymnastics.

Please note that NGA is not responsible for investigating safeguarding concerns. Our legal obligation is to refer such matters to the appropriate statutory authorities. In most cases, NGA will inform parents/carers if a referral needs to be made. However, in certain circumstances, we may be instructed by children’s social care or the police not to notify parents/carers while their investigation is ongoing. We recognise that this may cause understandable anxiety, but please be assured that all actions taken are in accordance with legislation designed to protect the best interests of the child.

In line with our Privacy Policy, members of the NGA team may share details of gymnast or parent/carer communications with the NGA Welfare Team if they have concerns about a gymnast, or if advice is required on how to respond to a situation. This is in full compliance with UK GDPR legislation and NSPCC safeguarding guidelines. Any communication may therefore be shared with the Welfare Team where there is a legitimate and lawful basis for doing so.
